The Newtown tragedy has stolen a core-something out of our Christmas. Exacerbated by a parade of assault weapon images on TV, Apocalypse 2012 doom, and the fiscal cliff, woes have tempered our joy this year. The season-to-be-jolly has a deep bruise on it.
In my lifetime, only the lingering grief after John F. Kennedy’s assassination  before Thanksgiving 1963 was as numbing, and weighed so heavily on the American spirit as the Sandy Hook tragedy.

The Spencer County High School varsity and junior varsity dance teams each won first place in their divisions at the Jamfest Dance Competition at the Lexington Convention Center in Lexington over the weekend.

The Spencer County Lady Bears have had a very busy week on the court, playing five games since last Monday.
The Lady Bears opened up with a trip to Frankfort to play Western Hills and they came away with a hard-fought 39-37 victory.
Mackenzie Myers led the way for the Lady Bears with 13 points and 13 rebounds while MacKenzie Keown added 10 points. Krysten Barlow hit two three-pointers on her way to eight points and eight rebounds and McKenna Pfeiffer added five points with Kristien Downs scoring three.

Against another outmanned if feisty foe, Lipscomb, the Kentucky Wildcats were improved. John Calipari can circle-talk, make it complicated, but it isn’t. Big Blue fans are witnessing one-season removed high school hot shots coming of age. They’re learning how to adjust from being The Man, into a (what?) role player.
Against Lipscomb, Archie Goodwin appeared to accept he is not Dwyane Wade; Kyle Wiltjer knows his stand-and-shoot freebies from the perimeter are over until opponents are convinced Alex Poythress is Terrence Jones.
