The Spencer County Middle School dance team placed first recently  at the Battle of the Bluegrass dance competition held at the Frankfort Convention Center. The team went up against two other middle school hip hop dance teams and brought home the win.

The Spencer County Bears fell to another of the 8th Regions top teams last Tuesday night as the Oldham County Colonels dispatched the Bears 53-46 in Taylorsville.

It was the second straight loss for the Bears after they had won eight of their previous nine games. However, Coach Jason Burns is still high on his team.

“It’s been a tough week, but also very positive as well,” said Burns.

We’re just now in the middle of January, but those whose jobs are to gin up interest in postseason college basketball are already releasing mock brackets, pairing and seedings for the NCAA Division I basketball tournament.
With so much of the season left to play, it seems a bit premature, but sportswriters seem to have nothing better to do between games than to guess about what’s to come later this season and even next season. (Football writers have already issued a top 25 for a sport that won’t see its first game for another eight months).

The Spencer County Lady Bears are on a roll. Winners of five in a row, the girls got perhaps their most important win of the season with a 57-44 victory at district rival Collins Friday night and are now 9-7 on the season.

In front of a large crowd in Shelbyville Friday, the girls got off to a slow start, trailing 7-2 before Audrey Michels knocked down a jumper and Alyssa Howie buried a three to knot the score at 7-7. Another trey by Howie would then put the Lady Bears up 10-7 to end the quarter.
