  • Bears impress in scrimmage

    The Spencer County Bears will open the 2011 football season on the road at Bardstown on Friday night trying to erase the memory of last year’s winless season from their minds.

    The Spencer County High School volleyball team dropped a tough 2-0 loss to Bullitt Central last week in its season opener.

    The girls lost the first game 25-18, then rallied in the second game, only to fall 27-25 in an exciting contest.

    The girls will be busy next week as they host Collins on Monday, North Bullitt on Tuesday, Bardstown on Wednesday and Anderson County on Thursday.

    Danny Blackwell of Taylorsville won his first Clayton Homes of Stanford UMP Sportsman feature of the season at Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown on Saturday. Blackwell moves into second place in points in his division, just ahead of another Taylorsville resident, Derek Bottoms.

    Jackson Cole and Cameron Seigle of Spencer County were invited to join the Anderson County All-Star team for a weekend of tournament play in the TST Summer Slam Classic  in Stanford.  Jackson, Cameron and the rest of the Anderson team played teams from across central and southern Kentucky. No. 2-seed Anderson County was defeated by the Lebanon Lumberjacks in the semi-final game on July 31.
