  • Lady Bears get 2 big wins

The Spencer County Lady Bears soccer team is back on track, notching two big wins over the last week as it improved to 3-5 on the season.
The girls took a big 9-1 victory over Kentucky Country Day last week and then scored a 4-1 victory over Louisville Eastern on Monday night.
Coach Charlie Traughber chalked up Monday’s win to a great defensive effort, which he says starts up front as soon as the opponent gains control of the ball.

  • Bears hang tough, but fall 29-20

They didn’t get a victory Friday night, but the Spencer County Bears are still winning over new coach Mike Marksbury with their effort despite a 29-20 loss to East Jessamine in their home opener.

Paint a picture: you’re 12 years old. Little League try-outs in late spring ... make the team ... take home a starched white uniform to show mom. You never forget how good the uniform  looks on the wire hanger.

Next, games through summertime’s best days, although you won’t know it until a decade has gone.

  • Bears bow to Bardstown

While a 27-7 loss Friday night was not the way new Spencer County Head Football Coach Mike Marksbury wanted the season to start, he’s already convinced he’s got a team that never is going to quit.

“I’m disappointed we didn’t win, but looking at the big picture, there are a lot of things that were very positive. First and foremost, the kids never quit,” said Marksbury.

He said Bardstown was a better team than he imagined, but the Bears stayed competitive throughout.
