  • COLUMN: Bengals loss brings up...

    Sunday was the first time I watched an entire Cincinnati Bengals game in years. I grew up loving the Bengals, even before they put stripes on their helmets and the heroes were guys like Kenny Anderson, Pete Johnson, Cris Collinsworth and Issac Curtis. They were the team of my youth and I remember how thrilled I was when I got a Bengals t-shirt and a Bengals winter coat for Christmas one year. I wore those things ragged.

    Fans (and CBS) got their money’s worth at Rupp Arena last week. Louisville at Kentucky was entertainment at its delicious best: Adrenaline, antagonist-protagonist (coaches), passion, rise-and-fall drama, more passion, players appreciated the crowd, then a Bill Keightley “whew, glad that’s over!” joy. For the other side, a few tears, lots of jeers, “we got cheated!” rant then, “How about those Charlie Strong Cards!?”

    A thrilling last-second shot Thursday night gave the Spencer County Bears their third win of the season as they nipped Bethlehem 49-48 during the first round of a holiday tournament at Marion County.

    The Spencer County Lady Bears made a long trip and took great strides last week during a holiday tournament in Logan County. Despite compiling a 1-2 record in three games, Head Coach David Marion said his squad played its best basketball of the season.

    The Spencer County High School wrestling team hosted teams from Atherton and Jeffersontown last Wednesday. Overall, Spencer County fell to Atherton, 54-30, and to Jeffersontown, 37-36.

    The Spencer County Lady Bears claimed one victory while hosting the inaugural Holiday Classic over the weekend.

    The Spencer County Middle School cheerleading team won first place in the Region 8 medium division at the KAPOS Middle School Regional Competition on Dec. 11. The team is headed to the state competition at EKU on Jan. 11. Coached by Catherine Knapp, members of the team are Sarah Beams, Ashlyn Beckham, Haley Burns, Kori Curtsinger, Megan Dysinger, Ashley Ebertshauser, Kaitlyn Humphrey, Haley Hutchins, Alyssa Kennison, Brittney Levesque, Katelynn Salter and Taylor Ward.
