  • Is the Kentucky-Indiana summer...

The Kentucky-Indiana basketball series came and went last month with a nod and whimper. Celebration for the 70th renewal was north of the Ohio after another Hoosier sweep.

Is this a series worth saving? You bet. And, it can be.

Kentucky planners need a new approach to resuscitate a series that dates to 1939 when George Crowe was Indiana’s first Mr. Basketball and Jumpin’ Joe Fulks (Kuttawa) was Kentucky star of stars.

A revival starts with the V-word, volunteer. And, a few ideas.

  • Beyond land of One-and-Done,...

Visit to Land of One-And-Done and beyond.

College basketball’s new catch-all, one-and-done is code for show-me-the-money-now! by handlers of 18-year-old Kobe-wanna-be’s who figure college is no more than seven months pretending to be a student until the birthday cake has 19 candles. It’s the world we live in.

But what about the sane side, One and not Done.

“It was hot, but it turned out to be great. We probably had 600 to 700 people there,” said Daniel Cole, president of the Spencer County Youth Baseball Association.

The annual fundraiser brought in an estimated $5,000 that will be used toward dirt, brick dust conditioner and possibly even lights.

With 32 baseball and softball teams, scheduling games can be difficult, said Cole.
