  • Volley season continues

The Spencer County Lady Bears volleyball team had a busy week last week, wrapping up with the First Spike Invitational Tournament at the Ohio Valley Volleyball Center in Louisville on Saturday.

The girls prepped for that event with a two games to none victory over Eminence on Wednesday, winning games of 25-12 and 25-21. On Thursday, the team traveled to Christian Academy of Louisville and dropped two games of 25-18 and 25-11.

  • Stumbling blocks to football...

High school football is in full swing. The college game is preparing to march onto center stage, but Sports Department’s other stuff keeps raining on the parade.

     To wit:

    • Media fascination with Brett Favre.

    • Pennat races. Cubs? Stick a fork in ‘em, again.

    • Rick Pitino jokes.

    • Media fascination with Michael Vick.

    • NCAA punishments.

    And, John Calipari.

  • Oh, what a night for a comeback

First-year SCHS Head Football Coach Wes Napper had a night to remember Friday. In his first game at the helm, his Bears rallied late in the fourth quarter for a 35-34 victory over East Jessamine in front of a large and excited home crowd. He got the traditional post-game empty-the-water cooler shower from players, and was later given the game ball. Not a bad way to start a season, not to mention a career.

  • College wakeboard competition

Tori Palmer, shown here in the season opener against Oldham County, broke out for a whopping seven goals in the team’s second game, a 9-5 win over visiting Jefferstontown. Cheyenne McKinley and Aliesha Patterson also scored goals for the Lady Bears, who fell 2-0 in the last game to Louisville Collegiate. The girls will be back in action tonight at home when they host Southern, and will travel to Western Hills on Monday

Grizzlies were scheduled to play My Old Kentucky Home away last night. Their next game will be Thursday when the B-team plays at home against St. Charles.

  • Stallions trample Fairdale

Stallions’ Pee Wee team was victorious over the Fairdale Bulldogs this past week 43-39, bringing their season record to 2-0. In one photo, Kaden Smith (4) scores a touchdown for the Stallions Pee Wee team while being chased down by a bunch of bulldogs. In the other photo, Wyatt DeRudder and an unidentified Stallion player make a big tackle against a Bulldog player.

The Stallions will host the Doss Dragons at home this Saturday.
