  • Louis Mulkey Memorial tournament

    Spencer County Middle School will host the 1st Annual Louis Mulkey Memorial 7 on 7 Passing Tournament this Saturday. The tournament will feature the following teams: Spencer County, Bloomfield, Frankfort, Gallatin County, Lexington Catholic, and TK Stone Middle Schools. Action will begin at 9:30 a.m.

    Spencer County High School senior Lindsey Kempf has signed with Lindsey Wilson College to play softball during the 2009-10 season.

  • True champs: Grizzly team wins...

    Grizzly baseball added another notch on their championship belt this season by defeating St. Dominic Middle School 10-7 in the 2009 MKAC Championship game last Tuesday.

    “It was definitely the hardest fought game that I have seen at any level,” said Coach Scott Noel. He describe the St. Dominic team as a powerhouse that compared to the higher level of competition the Grizzlies have come to expect from teams like Oldham County Middle.

  • Run by the Lake event May 30

    The elementary cross country and track team will be hosting the First Annual Taylorsville Summer Run by the Lake.

    Not an elite runner? No worries. This fundraising event is for all levels of athleticism. Participants are encouraged to run or walk at their own pace.

    This 5K cross country run/one-mile fun run will be held May 30 at Taylorsville Lake State Park. All proceeds go to support the Spencer County Track and CrossCountry Elementary Level Team.

    Race begins at 9 a.m.

    Registration and Packet Pick-up

    7 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.

  • Habitat Golf Scramble
  • Paddle Battle on the Salt River

    The 2nd Annual Paddle Battle on the Salt River is set for June 20-21. Participants will travel from Taylorsville to Shepherdsville over a 2 day course and paddling 30-plus miles.

    The race begins Saturday morning with a 10 a.m. launch.  Event finishes at Louisville-South KOA on Ky. 44, Shepherdsville. First boat to cross line in each of four categories wins respective class. Awards will be on Sunday.

    Faces. Past and future.

    As Jerry West’s silhouette is emblem for the NBA, if Kentucky basketball’s glorious past had a face (and idyllic nickname), both would belong to Raymond ‘Corky’ Withrow.

    At 75, Withrow will be inducted into the KHSAA Hall of Fame next spring. Good thing coming to a deserving man very late. A man who, with his athletic skills and personality, brought much credit to his home state.

  • Rockets burst season ender, Lady...

    Two months ago, the Spencer County Lady Bears shocked the 30th region with an upset win over Shelby County in the basketball tournament. For three innings  Monday night, it looked like Spencer County might repeat that effort on the softball diamond, but in the end it wasn’t meant to be, and the girls saw their season come to an end with a 12-4 loss at the hands of the Lady Rockets.

  • JV/Freshmen Girls’...

    The JV/Freshmen girl’s softball team won the Relay for Life fundraiser tournament hosted by Carroll County on May 9.

    The girls played Carroll County and won with a score of 7-3.

    They also played against Shelby County and won with a score of 6-0.

  • 11 runners qualify for AA State...

    The SCHS Track and Field team qualified 11 runners for the AA State Championship at the Region 3 Championships  May 16.

    The Regional meet started off well for Spencer County with the girls 4 x 800 meter relay team placing 3rd with a time of 10:34.  The team, consisting of Charliann Garcia, Whitney O’Dell, Christina Shawver, Chelsey Talley, and Adrian Gregory as an alternate, will enter the State Championship with a 4th place ranking.
