Samantha Elder (#10) and Ashlee Bell send a ball back over the net during a recent home game as the Spencer County Lady Bears volleyball team geared up for postseason play. The girls traveled to Bullitt County where they dropped a two-set match to Bullitt East by scores of 25-17 and 25-19. The girls finished 9-10 on the year.

The Spencer Cross Country team was back in action Saturday, as they traveled to Georgetown, and brought home some hardware from the Scott County Cardinal Classic.

  • Hillbilly Run

The Spencer County Cross Country team performed well in the rural setting of the Nelson County Hillbilly Run on Oct 4.  This was the tenth annual running of the “shoes optional” event.

  • SCHS Alumni Game Oct. 24

Spencer County High School will be holding alumni basketball games Friday, Oct. 24 beginning at 6:30 p.m. All former students are encouraged to participate in the fun whether that means playing or watching.  The evening will start off with the women’s game followed by two men’s games – one for seasoned players and one for younger alumni.

  • Close game despite score

For the second straight week, a highly-ranked team came to Taylorsville and left town with a win, but not without a scare as the Bears continue to prove they can compete with anyone on their schedule.

This past week, it was Anderson County who came calling. The 5A school sported an impressive 5-1 mark and survived a shootout, beating the Bears 54-33 in a game that was closer than that. Again, it was some timely mistakes and miscues that took a chance at an upset away from the Bears.

  • Kentucky at 'Bama perfect...

Kentucky takes its perfectly scripted perfect record to Tuscaloosa this week. The real season begins for Rich Brooks’ team in the land of football frenzy, mega-tailgate, Bear Bryant barbeque (all visitors) and fan smuggery that Kentucky is another way of saying "let's party early and late."

CBS-Sports cameras will beam the proceedings nationally. Perfect for bowl conversations to come, No. 2 ranked Alabama and upstart Kentucky too.

    Here’s how.

  • Volleyball record not a...

First year volleyball coach Chris Peer seemed pretty calm as his Spencer County Lady Bears battled Bullitt East to the very end of an exciting three set loss last week. He says the wins and losses right now are not indicative of the progress the squad has made, even those important numbers have improved.

  • Somber senior night as teams...

The Spencer County boys and girls soccer teams have bid their formal farewell to seniors, but they’ve still got a few games left in the season, including opening games of their district tournament that begins next Monday night.

The squads took a few moments last Thursdsay to honor their seniors between games. For the boys, the ceremony came on the heels of a disappointing 8-1 loss to Bullitt East. Senior Jamie Fleig scored the lone goal for the Bears in the first half, but the visiting Chargers pulled away in the second period for the win.

  • Bears knock down undefeated...

Bryant Fowler’s 98-yard pass reception that took the Spencer County Bears from their own 1 yard line to the Western Hills 1 yard line to set up the game-winning touchdown with just over a minute left to play Friday night, proved to be the most exciting play in the Bears’ 24-21 win over the previously undefeated and ranked Wolverines. But it wasn’t the biggest play.
