  • Grizzlies have superb season

    Kyle Alexander, a seventh-grader, throws a pass during warm-ups last Tuesday before defeating Marion County 5-1.

    The Grizzlies had a 12-game winning streak this season and defeated Anderson County to tie for a No. 1 seed in the district tournament, which was scheduled to start yesterday.  The team will also play in a state tournament beginning Saturday at Lindsey Wilson College.

    The Spencer County Lady Bears softball team continues its solid play, going 3-1 over the last week as they wind down their regular season and prepare for the upcoming district tournament that begins Monday in Shelbyville.

    The Cardinals’ dynamic playmaker was the centerpiece in “Off The Rez” last week. A documentary featured on The Learning Channel, “Off The Rez” was more docu-drama giving viewers a year-in-the-life poignant look inside a growing family and its mix of handling good times, hard times and hard decisions. It showed a (Native American) mom-coach of a successful girls basketball team and its star, Shoni Schimmel.

    The Lady Grizzlies faced Bondurant Middle School on Monday night and lost 2-4.

    "[The] girls played hard and kept them from scoring in the last couple innings," said coach Elizabeth Hinton. "We were hitting the pitches, just hitting them straight down the first base line. I’m very proud of them for a great season despite all of the rain."

  • Lady Bears on seven-game win...

    An impressive seven game winning streak has the Spencer County Lady Bears confident of some post-season success as they currently stand 14-7 on the season.
    The girls took a 7-0 victory over region foe South Oldham on the road last Wednesday, and followed that up with a 3-2 district win over Anderson County at home on Thursday.
    The Lady Bears are 3-1 against district foes on the season, and 6-2 in the region.

    I recently fished Cedar Creek Lake with an old and trusted buddy with whom I’ve fished a thousand times. A slow fishing day by Cedar Creek’s standards, I brought only one largemouth bass to hand by 2:30 p.m.

  • Stallions sign-ups planned

    Stallions football and cheerleading sign-ups for the 2011 season will take place over the next couple months.

    Sign-up dates are:
    May 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the football field
    May 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the football field
    June 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ray Jewell Park
