    There’s excitement around the Spencer County boys soccer program this year as the Bears are coming off an extremely competitive season with all their starters returning and full of confidence.

    The Spencer County Lady Bears soccer team bounced back from a dismal 3-14 record two years ago, to post a 10-7-1 mark last year. But gone from last year’s squad are the leading scorer, leader in assist, and their starting goalie.

    Despite those losses, head coach Kelsi Edelen remains optimistic about the upcoming season because of their preparation.

    “We are planning on continuing that momentum,” she said about the prospects of building on last season’s success. “We know the younger girls will step it up.”

  • Local golfers win tourney

     

    A team of golfers from Spencer County took first place in the Bullitt East Invitational Golf Tournament last week at Tanglewood Golf Course.

    The Spencer County team scored a low four score total of 327. In addition, Jonathan Sanders won the low individual trophy with a score of two under par, 70.

    Spencer County Stallions Youth Football to host Field Day and Auction this Saturday

    The Spencer County Stallions youth football program will host a Field Day and auction at Stallions Field this Saturday, July 29, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. There will be food, bounce houses, games and a live auction that begins at 5 p.m. The event will help raise funds for the program as they prepare to kick off the season. Spencer County Stallions Field is located at the end of Water Street in Taylorsville.

    Colton Todd, pictured, and Gabe Shelley were selected to the Great Shelbyville All-Star golf team after their performance with the Tanglewood youth golf team this summer. Other Spencer County youth who participated this year included:  Seth Shelley, Baylee Todd, Jackson Tobbe, Ryan Tobbe, Peyton Stein, Jameson Stocker, Hayla Puckett, Ivan Lester, Landon Knirenum, Connor Bridwell, Anthony Garner and Mauranda Dolle.

  • U8 All-Stars compete at state

     

    The Spencer County U8 All-Star team had a very impressive run in the state tournament in Louisville last week, splitting four games. The boys battled hot weather and some high-quality competition. They opened the tournament with a 12-7 loss to Germantown, then bounced back with a 13-7 win over Highview and a 15-7 win over Jeffersontown. However, their tournament ended with a 15-7 loss to Okalona.
