About Us

The Spencer Magnet, a weekly newspaper owned by Landmark Media Enterprises (formerly Landmark Community Newspapers, Inc.), is located in historic downtown Taylorsville, right in the heart of rural Spencer County.

In 2017, the paper celebrated its 150th anniversary and claims the title as the county's longest running business. Originally called the Spencer Courier, the publication earned its current moniker in the 1920s when then owner Katie Beauchamp noticed how the newspaper drew people together. In 1948, Editor Emeritus Dolly Brock and husband Claude purchased the Spencer Magnet and worked together until Claude retired in 1975. Ms. Brock continued on as editor for another 18 years before selling the newspaper to LCNI in 1990.

Currently, the Spencer Magnet is read in over 4,000 homes each week as well as on the web. The mission of the newspaper is to provide Spencer County residents with accurate news, sports and feature stories that are compelling and represent both sides of issues fairly. We welcome comments on how the Spencer Magnet can serve you better. Please send letters to the editor at the following address:
