School tax hike set at highest option

-A A +A
By John Shindlebower

The Spencer County Board of Education set their tax rates last Thursday, one that will see some residents paying more, and some paying less, depending on where they live.
The actual tax rate on real estate decreased from 65.2 percent set last year, to a rate of 63.1, which was the highest rate they could set without crossing the limit that would have made the tax subject to a voter recall.
Kentucky House Bill 44 , which went into effect several decades ago, limits the increase of revenue from property taxes to 4 percent from one year to the next.
