Townhill Road in Taylorsville reopened Thursday afternoon after being closed for nearly two days following a water main break underneath the roadway.

Water line and roadway repairs were completed by 3 p.m. and the road reopened to traffic.

The break occurred on Tuesday evening, but Kentucky Transportation Cabinet personnel were not able to assess the severity of the damage until daylight Wednesday.

"We did have some movement in the embankment due to the water main break," said Andrea Clifford, public information officer for KYTC District 5. "Our staff is evaluating the situation in the daylight. I don’t think they could see it all last night."

Officials from KYTC were at the scene Wednesday morning, along with officials from Taylorsville Waterworks.

On Wednesday, only two Taylorsville Waterworks customers were without water, said Harold Compton, the city's public works director.

Water customers along Main Street from the Family Dollar to Townhill Road, including Houston Court, Railroad Street and Hume Lane may have experienced low water pressure, but did have water, Compton said.

The water department did not connect the line back together, but capped the ends on each side of the break to restore water service to customers.
