Circuit Clerk’s Office closed Friday

The Spencer County Circuit Clerk’s Office will be closed Friday, November 10th, in observance of the Veteran’s Day holiday.  The office will reopen on Monday, November 13th, at 7:30 a.m.

Driver’s License testing dates

There will be no driver’s license permit or road testing held on November 9 or November 23. The only testing dates left in November will be November 16  and November 30.

AMVETS to host Veterans Day Coffee and Donut event

Spencer County AMVETS Post 129, will host a Veterans Appreciation Coffee and Donuts at the Taylorsville Chamber of Commerce on Veterans Day, November 11, at 8 a.m. The event is free for all veterans and their families.

AMVETS will discuss the Honor Flight Program in Louisville for veterans of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. This is  a one-day trip to Washington D.C., free for veterans to see their memorials. Guardians who assist on the trip pay $500 for the day.

If the veteran has no guardian who can make the trip, one will be assigned to them. Nurses accompany the veterans, and meals, snacks and wheelchairs are provided. The next flight is scheduled for March 2018.

Help needed to place flags on veterans’ graves

American Veterans (AMVETS) Post 129 will be placing flags on veterans’ graves for Veterans Day. Anyone interested in helping can meet at Valley Cemetery on Friday November 10th at 3 p.m. This is the largest cemetery with flags placed at over 300 veterans graves.

They will place flags at five Spencer County cemeteries. Flags will be  picked up at Valley Cemetery on Sunday, November 12th, starting at 3 p.m. and they need help with this also.

Veterans invited to Middle School for Pancakes for Patriots breakfast

Spencer County Middle School invites all veterans, reservists and active duty military to attend the Pancakes for Patriots breakfast and program on Friday, November 10. The breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m. and a program will follow.

Animal Shelter dinner fundraiser

Spencer County Animal Shelter’s 2nd Annual Dinner Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, November 11, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., at the Spencer County Extension Service at 100 Oak Tree Way, Taylorsville. Tickets are $25 each (or) $40 for two.

The evening will include dinner, entertainment, an auction and door prizes.

Gingerbread House contest

The annual Gingerbread House Contest is approaching and houses can be turned in at the Red Scooter by November 16. There are categories for various age groups. For more information, call 477-6608.

Lady Bears Basketball Skills Clinic

The Spencer County Lady Bears Basketball team will host a Skills Clinic on November 22nd, from 9-12 p.m. at Spencer County High School.  The cost is $20 to attend the clinic.  Girls will get the chance to go through the Lady Bears drills and get to practice with the Lady Bears.  They will cover shooting, dribbling, passing, defense, and rebounding.  Some of the drills they will cover are the Transy block out drill, Midway block out drill, rapid pass, form shooting, and more.  If your daughter is interested in attending the skills clinic, please contact Coach Brandy Scott at the high school or you can pay at the door.

Public Library events

The Spencer County Public Library events for the week of November 8 are as follows:

Every Monday and Wednesday, the Kentucky Career Center is available to assist those with job searches and resumes from 10 a.m. until noon. At 10:30 a.m., there is a Lapsit Storytime for children ages 0-3.

Every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., there will be a storytime for children ages 3-5.  At 1 p.m. you can listen, play and learn about the dulcimer. At 3 p.m., Guitar (13 and older). Free group lessons, and participants will need to bring their own guitars. At 6:30 p.m. - Underground Storytime for grades 3-5.

Each Wednesday, the Teen Club (ages 13-18) will meet. This Wednesday at 3:15 p.m., there will be 3D Printing with the Makermobile.

Every Friday at 10:30 a.m. - Ready 4 School: Kindergarten readiness program for children entering kindergarten in 2018.

On November 9, 10 and 11 - History Channel’s Vietnam in HD: In honor of Veterans’ Day, the library will learn more about the Vietnam War. They will be watching two episodes each day for a program length of approximately one and a half hours. The free program is for adults only. Times are Thursday at 6 p.m., Friday at 11 a.m., and Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
