Scouts host food pick-up day
The Taylorsville Boy Scout pack is hosting a food pick-up day on Saturday.
Boy Scouts will come pick up donations in subdivisions and neighborhoods beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The scouts will sort the collected food at the Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency, located at 44 Creekside Drive.
The scouts request no glass and no perishable items.
Donated items will benefit local families.

Historical society to host annual social
The Spencer County Historical Society is hosting its annual social Monday, 6:30 p.m., at the Spencer County Library.
Those attending are asked to bring a snack to share and a mysterious antique relic. Maybe, you can baffle the history experts when they try to guess your antique’s original purpose. Everyone is invited to attend.

SCES to collect pull tabs for service project
The Spencer County Elementary School Student Council will be participating in the Ronald McDonald House Charities pull tab recycling program as a community service project from November 2013-April 2014.  To donate your pull tabs (from aluminum cans) , drop them off at the school office or call 477-6950 for more information.

Drama students present ‘A Christmas Carol’
Spencer County middle and high school drama students will present, “A Christmas Carol,” Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $2 for students and $4 for adults.
Between Saturday’s performances, from 4 to 6:30 p.m., the group will host a spaghetti dinner. Dinner is $5 and desserts are available for $1.

Community Thanksgiving Service announced
The Spencer County Ministerial Association invites the community to the annual Community Thanksgiving Service on Sunday at 7 p.m. This year’s service will be at the First Assembly of God Church, 402 Garrard St.
Each year the love offering taken at this service is used to purchase toys for the Christmas Toy Sale sponsored by the Spencer County Ministerial Association. The Toy Sale helps some families in our community to purchase toys for their children at a reduced cost.

MPCAA board to meet
The Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency’s Board of Directors will meet Monday at 1:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Shelby County Senior Center, 207 Washington St., Shelbyville.  The public is invited to attend. Multi-Purpose CAA provides services for Families in Bullitt, Shelby and Spencer Counties.

Magnet announces Thanksgiving closings, deadlines
The Spencer Magnet office will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28, and Friday, Nov. 29, to observe the Thanksgiving holiday. The office will re-open Monday, Dec. 2 at 9 a.m.
The advertising deadline for the Nov. 27 edition (Thanksgiving week) is Friday, Nov. 22 at noon.
The advertising deadline for the Dec. 4 edition is Wednesday, Nov. 27 at noon.
The deadline for news submissions for the Nov. 27 edition is Friday, Nov. 22 at 5 p.m.
The deadline for news submissions for the Dec. 4 edition is Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 5 p.m. or, if sent via email, Friday, Nov. 29, at 5 p.m.

Sheriff’s office announces closings
The Spencer County Sheriff’s Office will be open this Saturday instead of Saturday, Nov. 30. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the office will be closed Nov. 28, 29 and 30.

Chamber accepting Citizen of the Year nominations
The Taylorsville-Spencer County Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting nominations for the 2013 Citizen of the Year.
Anyone in the community is invited to nominate a person they believe worthy of the award.
Nominations must be received by November 29 and should be sent to Chamber President Cara Lewis at P.O. Box 555, Taylorsville, Ky. 40071, or emailed to president@spencercountykychamber.com.
Nominations should include a short description detailing the nominee’s accomplishments.

MPCAA to offer Zumba Gold
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency will offer Zumba Gold classes for active adults. Ages 60 and over are admitted free. Ages 50-59 will be charged a $2 admission fee.
Classes are scheduled for 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Adult Ed offers college, GED prep classes
College and GED preparation classes are available at the Spencer County Adult Education Center, located at 406 Main Cross in Taylorsville.
Classes are offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings as well as Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Senior Center open Tuesdays, Thursdays
The Spencer County Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency Senior Life Enrichment Center, located at 44 Creekside Drive, is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays for community members ages 60 and older. Lunch is served at 11:30. Reservations must be made by noon Tuesday for the following week. Call 477-8296 and ask for Ginger for more information.
