• COLUMN: Are you on the mountain or in the valley?

Have you ever heard the phrase of being on top of the mountain or the phrase of being down in the valley? Those phrases are ways of describing how we feel at any particular moment. I would like spend a few moments looking at mountain top and valley experiences.

  • COLUMN: Jesus' followers called to be 'salt and light'

The Spencer County Lady Bears snapped a seven game losing streak with a 71-51 victory over visiting Owen County last Monday night in Taylorsville.
The Lady Bears played their most complete game of the season according to Coach David Marion, an assessment he said was backed up by stats. They shot a season-high 50 percent from the field and connected on six three-pointers. They hit 13-17 from the free throw line and Marion said he was most pleased with his squad committing only seven turnovers.

  • COLUMN: Is your life in pieces? Turn to God for glue

I must admit, in my life I have broken a dish or two, we probably all have.  But have you ever broken one of those supposedly “unbreakable” dishes? I won’t name names, because in fact these dishes do seem incredibly durable.  But they don’t just break, they almost blow up!

  • COLUMN: Jesus is the lamb of God

A reading from St. John 1:29:  The next day (John) saw Jesus coming toward him, and said. “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”
The world we live in today is a world of extremes. For example, we can go from witnessing the innocence of childhood  to seeing the most wretched acts of violence…all in one day.

  • COLUMN: Hang on

With all the cold and snow and ice out there I think we’ve all been reminded to hang on tight. I stepped on to a patch of ice as I got out of the car today and I was glad I was hanging on to the door. When it is raining or icy out it can be good to have something to grab on to.
A while back I stepped on to some wet grass in a parking lot and did the splits right there. Thankfully I wasn’t hurt, I just glanced around to be sure no one had seen me and got right up. But it sure would have been nice to have someone to hang on to when my feet went out from under me.
