  • Donald Ray Goodlett, 73

    Donald Ray Goodlett, 73, of Mount Eden, died July 16, 2011, at Baptist Hospital East.
    Goodlett was born in Spencer County to the late Otis and Mattie Coulter Goodlett. He was a retired state highway department employee and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
    He also attended Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.
    He was preceded in death by his brothers, Goodlow, Eddie Thomas, Carl, Arthur Lee and Martin Goodlett; and a sister, Mattie Louise Chesser.

    Garrett E. Searcy, 42, of Taylorsville, died Tuesday, July 5. He was a native of Glendale, Calif.
    Survivors include his wife, Lena Searcy; his children, Elizabeth Tyler Searcy and Garrett E. Searcy II, both of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Hubertina Kay Searcy of Ayner, S.C.; his parents, Robert Leroy and Hubertina Searcy of Taylorsville; his brother, Robert J. Searcy of California; and two stepchildren, Crystal Reed and Paige Reed, both of Louisville.

    Mary “Lil Downs” Lewis, 82, passed away Friday, July 1, 2011, at her home.

    She is survived by her sons, Charles E. “Lowe” (Diane) Downs, of Louisville, Bruce “Boobie” Downs and Nevin Glen “Red” Downs, both of Taylorsville; and daughters, Cherly Downs, of Taylorsville, and Julia A. Downs (Roger) Grundy, of Bardstown; brother, Harvey Lee Brown, of Louisville; and sisters, Katie Gilbert, Lillian “Teenie” (Omer) Spencer, of Louisville, Aline (William) Claxton, of Louisville, and Sue Livers, of Fairfield.

  • Homer S. Thompson, 86

    Homer S. Thompson, 86, of Live Oak, Fla., passed away Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Advent Christian Village, Dowling Park, Fla.

    He is survived by his wife, Virginia Thompson, of Live Oak, Fla.; sons, Stanley (Joy) Thompson, of Taylorsville, Curtis Thompson, of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Charles W. Thompson, of Live Oak, Fla.; and daughter, Rebecca Cassidy, of Manchester, Tenn.

    Services were arranged by ICS Cremation and Funeral Home of Lake City, Fla.

    A memorial service will be held later this month.

    Charlotte Jane White Groves, 71, died Sunday, July 3, in Danville.

    She was a native of Spencer County and was a retired school lunchroom worker. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul White Sr. and Evelyn Shields White; and her daughter, Denise Ware.

  • Margaret Rowland, 89

    Margaret Rowland, 89, of Taylorsville, died June 22, 2011, at Signature Health Care of Taylorsville.
    She was a retired beautician and a member of First Baptist Church of Taylorsville.
    Rowland was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Bertie Ann Goodlett Bentley; her husband, Roy Rowland; sisters, Hazel Rogers and Mildred Bridwell; and a brother, Hollis Bentley.
    She is survived by sisters, Nellie Bentley and Edna Hahn, both of Taylorsville; and a brother, T.C. Bentley, of Lawrenceburg.

  • Anita Simpson Williams, 74

    Anita Simpson Williams, 74, of Mt. Washington, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at Baptist Hospital East.
    Anita was a member of First Baptist Church of Mount Washington.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Chick” Williams.

  • H. LaVerne Hogan, 92

    H. LaVerne Hogan, 92, of Taylorsville, died Thursday, June 16.
    Born in Louisville, she was the daughter of the late Anton G. and Helen L. Stoeth Pfuelb and the widow of Patrick J. Hogan.
    She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Frank) Stevenson of Taylorsville, and her sister, Louise Nalley of Clarksville.
    Visitation was Saturday at Hall-Taylor Funeral Home in Taylorsville, with interment following at Saint Michael’s Cemetery in Louisville.

  • Lisa Gay Logan, 49

    Lisa Gay Logan, 49, of Taylorsville, died after a four-year fight with breast cancer June 16, 2011, at Hosparus in Louisville.
    Logan will be remembered as a loving wife and dedicated mother. She was also a bus driver for the Spencer County School District.
    Survivors include five children, Carl Edward Joiner, Amanda Lee Joiner, Anthony Dean Howard, Lucinda Marie Guzman and Mitchell Earl Guzman; a brother, Richard Hughes; a sister, Carol (Tony) Laforest; and in-laws Betty and Ray Timmons.

  • Maxine Nethery, 84

    Maxine Nethery, 84, passed away Friday, June 10, 2011 at Signature Health Care of Spencer County.
    Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Bertie Rose and Mary Blanche Hawkins Webb.
    A homemaker, Mrs. Nethery was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was also a faithful member of Briar Ridge Christian Church where she formerly taught Sunday School.
    She was also a member of the Loyal Homemakers and enjoyed doll collecting.
