  • Spencer County represented well in Little Miss and Mister pageant at State Fair

    Spencer County was well-represented at the 2012 Kentucky State Fair, especially in the Little Miss and Mister Pageant.

  • PHOTO: Sidewalk closed, but businesses open

    The sidewalk on Main Street in front of the Chamber of Commerce building, the courthouse annex and several local businesses is currently closed as construction continues on the Main Street Phase II renovations, but businesses are still open. The streetscape project is nearly complete on the opposite side of the road.

    Police Chief Toby Lewis spoke to students at Hillview Academy on Wednesday about drug awareness and encouraged them not to surround themselves with people they know are involved with drugs.

  • Local offices join national crackdown to reduce impaired driving fatalities

    If you drink and drive in Spencer County, the Spencer County Attorney’s Office is joining with law enforcement throughout the nation for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign through Sept. 3.
    The strong nationwide impaired driving crackdown will include high-visibility enforcement, high-profile events, and will be supported by national paid advertising, creating a comprehensive campaign to curb alcohol impaired driving in August and through the Labor Day holiday weekend (6 p.m. Sept. 3- 5:59 a.m. Sept. 7).

    Pappy Q, a local BBQ team from Taylorsville, was Reserve Champion at the 11th annual Madison Ribberfest Indiana State Championship Barbeque Cookoff recently in Madison, Ind. The Pappy Q team consists of Tom and Bernie Hillman.

    Members of the 1962 graduating class of Taylorsville High School recently gathered for a 50-year reunion.

  • Sheriff’s Department to conduct traffic safety checkpoints

    The Spencer County Sheriff’s Department will conduct periodic traffic safety checkpoints through Sept. 30 at locations approved by the sheriff’s department policy and procedure manual.
    Special traffic enforcement and saturation patrols will be dispatched to high collision areas.
    The checkpoints will be conducted in an effort to enforce traffic laws, with special attention paid to occupant protection, sobriety, insurance and registration violations. Occupant protection will include seat belt adherence.

  • PHOTOS: Candidates draw for ballot position

    Candidates running for office in the November election drew for their ballot positions at the County Clerk’s office last Thursday. Two city commission candidates were present to draw — Jack Proctor and Beverly Ingram. Candidate Ellen Redmon sent her daughter-in-law, Megan, to draw in her place.

  • Six to vie for four spots on commission

    Six candidates have signed up to run for the four available spots on the Taylorsville City Commission.
    Those candidates are incumbents Kathy Spears and Beverly Ingram, and Jack Proctor, Richard Johns, Paul Gaddie and Ellen Redmon.
    Spears did not return messages in time to be included in last week’s article about the candidates on the ballot for November, but has since provided the following statement regarding the reasons she decided to seek re-election.
