    Thanks to the Spencer County Middle School Art Club, sponsored by Stacey LaRue, the window boxes in front of The Red Scooter were decked out for Gourdi Gras.
    Welcoming the real Gourd Festival Gourdheads to Taylorsville, imaginary characters lined the front of the store. Asked to vote on their favorite gourdhead, the public cast the most votes for Foxy Gourd, created by Sara Hall. All students will receive a participation ribbon from the Gourd Society.

    Looking for something fun to do in June?  The fun begins Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., with Amazon John and his nocturnal animals from around the world.
    Every Tuesday in June at 10:30 a.m., there is a new program check our website spencercountylibrary.us or call 477-8137 for details. Make sure you register for Summer Reading at the Spencer County Public Library.
    Every child under 10 that  reads 10 books or has them read to them receives a prize package.

  • PHOTO: Smith named AHA’s ‘Staff Person of the Year’

    On May 9, Kristen Smith of TruePoint Insurance Group was recognized as the 2011 Staff Person of the Year by AHA (Agents Helping Agents). The AHA alliance is made up of over 100 independent insurance agencies from the western half of Kentucky, Southern Indiana and Northwestern Tennessee. AHA and its members are a part of a national alliance known as SIAA.  SIAA is the largest alliance of independent insurance agents in the country.  As part of this alliance, members obtain greater market access, enhanced relationships with insurance companies, and increased agency stability.

    The Spencer County Democratic Party held its convention April 17 and elected the following executive committee members: Susan Arnold, Berttye Sue Brown, Bonnie Downs, Carmin Gaines, Jill Herndon, Annette King, Abby Nation, Hope Selby, Hilda Snider, Ruth Stamper, Bill Arnold, Paul Daugherty, Davis Lee Downs, David Goodlett, David Henry, Darrell Herndon, Dr. John M.     Since taking office last year, State Rep. Kim King (R-Mercer) has insisted that legislators should not be paid for budget-related special sessions.

  • Spencer County opens Public Library Workforce Center

    Spencer County residents seeking employment opportunities now have more computer access, training and job workshops at the new Public Library Workforce Center (PLWC). The Spencer County Public Library is one of 46 public libraries in the state that will have a PLWC.
    The centers house computers and software that will be used to provide training in a formal workshop setting to Kentucky residents seeking employment opportunities.
