    Erica Goodlett, 7, a second-grader at Taylorsville Elementary School, shares a hug with Jack the Reading Dog at Spencer County Public Library on Saturday morning. Children in the community were invited to come read to Jack. Children who read to pets improve their reading skills and gain confidence, event organizers said.

  • Habitat selects two new partner families

    Spencer County Habitat for Humanity announces the recent selection of two new partner families. The families of Gina Hedden and Lee and Carlie Burden will join with Habitat in the construction of their new homes.
    Both families have completed a lengthy selection process and meet the three basic Habitat criteria.
    1. Need – currently living in substandard/overcrowded/unsafe housing.
    2. Ability to Pay – income sufficient to pay an interest free mortgage.

  • Farm Toy Show set for Dec. 13, 14

    The 2013 Spencer County FFA Farm Toy Show is Dec. 13 and 14 at Spencer County High School. The hours are 6 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 13 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 14.
    This is a tremendous activity for the whole family, particularly children, organizers said.
    A feature this year will be a free “Freddie Farmer’s Fun Farm” complete with pedal tractors and a shelled corn sand box.

    KIPDA, library to offer help enrolling in health care
    If you have questions about or need help enrolling for health care coverage, KIPDA will answer your questions and help you enroll in the plan that is right for you Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Spencer County Public Library.  Be prepared and bring your contact information, income, expenses, employer information along with your insurance and Social Security card.

  • What's Happening — Nov. 27 edition

    Drivers license testing notice
    Due to the Thanksgiving holiday being on Thursday, drivers license permit testing will be held today Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 between 8:30 and 10 a.m. Road skills testing will be at noon.
    Motorcycle road tests have been discontinued and will resume again in the spring. Dates will be announced at a later time.

  • What's Happening — Nov. 20 edition

    Scouts host food pick-up day
    The Taylorsville Boy Scout pack is hosting a food pick-up day on Saturday.
    Boy Scouts will come pick up donations in subdivisions and neighborhoods beginning at 8:30 a.m.
    The scouts will sort the collected food at the Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency, located at 44 Creekside Drive.
    The scouts request no glass and no perishable items.
    Donated items will benefit local families.
