  • Board certifies election results

    The Spencer County Board of Elections met Friday morning to finalize and certify the election results from Tuesday. According to election reports provided by the sheriff’s office, only a few minor issues appeared on election day.
    According to Spencer County Clerk Lynn Hesselbrock, the reports included some ballot scanning issues in Mt. Eden and Camp Branch.
    “Several precincts were reporting ballots which would not scan correctly,” Hesselbrock said. “My understanding is that several counties statewide had similar issues.”

  • Preschool pilots full day class

    The Spencer County Board of Education has given the preschool a thumbs up to explore the waters of full day preschool.
    The board unanimously approved a proposal at its May meeting that will allow Spencer County Preschool to offer both full and half-day classes to qualifying children. During the 2014-2015 school year, the program will offer a full day program to serve up to 20 students and 2.5 half-day classrooms serving a total of up to 100 students.

  • County budget battle to continue Thursday

    The Spencer County Fiscal Court’s budget battle will continue Thursday with both the county judge executive and two of the magistrates taking opposing positions on the issue.
    Spencer County Judge Executive Bill Karrer said that the magistrate’s special called meeting on May 13 was an illegal meeting that he was not invited to. Spencer County Clerk Lynn Hesselbrock, who normally takes formal minutes during fiscal court meetings said she was also not invited to attend.

    Child and teen summer reading programs
    coming up
    The library is holding registration for the child and teen summer reading programs starting May 24. The child reading program is on Tuesdays in June at 10:30 a.m. and the teen program is in June at 6:30 p.m.

  • Court rejects budget proposal

    The Spencer County Fiscal Court rejected the first reading of an ordinance pertaining to the 2014-2015 fiscal year budget by a 4-2 vote Monday. The vote came less than a week after a special meeting in which four magistrates discussed issues they had with the budget as presented.
