  • BIRTH: Abigail Rose born Dec. 13

    Chris and Jessica Limpp of Taylorsville announce the birth of their daughter, Abigail Rose Limpp, on Dec. 13, 2011, at 2:32 p.m. at Suburban Hospital in Louisville.

    She weighed 7 pounds and was 16 inches long.
    She was welcomed home by a sister, Alexandra Jameson.

  • BIRTH: Welcome, baby McClain

    Jessica and Shelby McClain announce the birth of their baby brother, David Carlton McClain, on Sept. 8, 2011.

    David weighed 9 pounds, 2 ounces.
    His parents are Derrick and Amanda McClain of Bardstown.
    Grandparents are Mike and Teresa Haynes of Little Mount, Bobby and Terri Johnson of Fern Creek, and Garry McClain of Bardstown.

  • ANNIVERSARY: Millers to celebrate 60th anniversary

    The family of Alvin and Lois (Fletcher) Miller would like to invite family and friends to help celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on January 21 from 2-4 p.m. at Highland Baptist Church in Shelbyville.

    The couple was married at the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville on Jan. 30, 1952.  
    They have five children and seven grandchildren. The couple reside on their farm in Shelbyville.

  • ANNIVERSARY: Ockermans celebrate 60 years

    Marvin Eugene and Anna Frances Satterly Ockerman celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Dec. 23, 2011, and Christmas holiday with family at the Ockerman’s home in Bardstown.

  • Gray’s Run bridge over Simpson Creek to close six weeks for repairs

    Ky. 1392, known as Gray’s Run Road, will be closed at the bridge over Simpson Creek (mile point 1.9) beginning Monday for repairs.
    The bridge will remain closed for approximately six weeks, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 5 Office.
    Work began last fall to perform bridge deck restoration on this structure and the roadway was reduced to one lane.
    During the closure of Ky. 1392, motorists should follow the signed detour via Ky. 652, known as Little Union Road.

  • Fiscal Court approves budgets for clerk, sheriff

    During its meeting last Wednesday, the Spencer County Fiscal Court approved fee budgets for both the sheriff and the county clerk.

    The fiscal court cannot set salaries for individual deputies and assistants, but has the authority to set the total amount expended for salaries and benefits.

    County Clerk Lynn Hesselbrock budgeted $253,044 for the salaries and benefits of her deputies, assistants and other employees — the limit set by the court for the former clerk.

  • UPDATED: Support lacking for move to fourth class

    UPDATE: The resolution to request Kentucky's General Assembly to consider upgrading Taylorsville to a fourth-class city was on the agenda for a special-called meeting of the City Commission on Tuesday afternoon. However, because the resolution failed at last Tuesday's meeting (by a vote of 2-3), Mayor Don Pay said he would have needed four out of five commission members to agree to bring the issue back up. That did not happen, so the vote from last Tuesday's meeting stands.


  • Homicide rocks Spencer County

    A Bardstown man found dead in a barn off Bowman Lane with a single gunshot wound through the head has left the community shocked, neighbors unsettled and the perpetrator at large.

    The investigation of 34-year-old Daniel D. Cahoe’s suspicious death started late Thursday evening after he was found slumped over in an empty barn in the 2000 block of Bowman Lane near the intersection of West River Road. But what was once considered a death investigation has now been classified as a homicide investigation by Kentucky State Police.  

  • Police identify body found in barn

    UPDATED SUNDAY, JAN. 8, at 9:30 A.M. — Police have released the name of a man found dead Thursday in Spencer County and confirmed they are now conducting a homicide investigation.

    The body of Daniel D. Cahoe, 34, of Bardstown, was found in a barn on Bowman Lane on Thursday afternoon. The Spencer County Sheriff's Department and Kentucky State Police spent several hours on the scene Thursday near the intersection of Bowman Lane and West River Road.
