  • Shelter funds debated

Debates in public meetings often revolve around who’s receiving money. Monday night, the discussion at the Spencer County Fiscal Court meeting was about who has to keep it.

  • What’s Happening

    Farmers Market meeting
    scheduled

The Spencer County Farmers Market Committee will be holding a planning meeting on Thursday, beginning at 6 p.m. They would like all of those who have previously sold or are interested in selling to attend. They will be discussing the previous selling season and begin planning the 2018 season. It will be held at the Spencer Co. Extension Office.
You do not need to be a large producer to participate in the market. Backyard gardeners are welcome.

  • God scares us more than guns

Funerals are being held this week for many of the 17 victims in the most recent school shooting in Florida. Two graves are still fresh in Marshall County, KY and odds are, there could be another school shooting in the coming weeks, the next few months, or perhaps next year.
Each one is a tragedy. And each time, before the smoke clears, the debate over guns rages. It’s the wrong debate.

  • Skunks are now on the move

It is that time of year again, and I am reminded because of the smell and road kill left behind. Plus, a strong scent of skunk has been lingering in the pasture this past week. And, I got an Instagram video from my niece as she was clearly backing away from a lumbering black and white rodent down by the river!
We used to get them circling the house on winter evenings, but our livestock guardian dogs’ presence has kept them at bay the last few years.  Their presence is not surprising, however, because it is mating season for skunks and they are on the move.
