    The Spencer County Lady Bears soccer team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 6-3 victory over Thomas Nelson in their home opener Thursday night.

  • Coach: Volleyball team ‘loaded with talent’

    Spencer County Volleyball Coach Tim Elder said he has some high hopes for the 2013 season, even though his Lady Bears are off to a 0-3 start.
    “We have plenty of senior leadership and the junior and sophomore classes are loaded with talent,” Elder said. “This is the most talent that Spencer County has ever had in volleyball since I’ve been involved with the program.”

    There are good starts, and then there are fantastic starts. The beginning of the season for the Spencer County Bears football team would fall into the latter category as the Bears dominated from start to finish in a 56-7 thrashing of Thomas Nelson in Bardstown.

    Saturday shaped up to be a beautiful day for football as the Spencer County Stallions took on the St. Stephens Bulldogs.

  • Back-to-back state champs

    The U10 Spencer County Wolfpack began its quest for the Kohl’s Cup at Dean Watts Park in Bardstown with a tough match vs. the Nelson County Thunder. After falling behind early, the boys began dominating possessions while applying constant pressure on Nelson County’s excellent goalkeeper.

  • COLUMN: 'Squeak' for change on Ky. 44

    Three accidents occurred on Saturday within eight hours of each other and probably within fewer than eight feet of each other.
    Two motorcycles and an SUV fell victim to a sharp drop-off along Ky. 44 West inside of city limits heading out of Taylorsville.
    This roadway — the twisty, turning Ky. 44 — has been on the state’s “schedule” for years. Several phases of the project have been completed, but none of those phases entails construction or implementation.
