  • SAVVY SENIOR: Music therapy can benefit Alzheimer’s patients

    Dear Savvy Senior,
What can you tell me about music therapy for Alzheimer’s patients? I’m helping my dad take care of my 80-year-old mother who has mid-stage Alzheimer’s disease and thought it might be something worth trying. How do we proceed?
    Unmusical Mary

    Dear Mary,

  • COLUMN: Worry, stress or panic — it may be anxiety

During certain times in our lives, all of us have experienced most, if not all of the above. But, I have had more clients/patients who have had a combination of worry and fear (often being unable to determine which one is first and which one is second).
I’m going to address these issues by concentrating on anxiety, which seems to arrive accompanied by both, although one may be more prevalent than the other.

  • COLUMN: Work to be rich in the spirit

Today’s passage comes from Luke 12:13-21:

  • COLUMN: ON THE ROAD — Make sure you take note of the blessings in the car as you travel

I recently got back from a long road trip, literally two days there and two days back. Because of the timetable we really didn’t have a lot of time to stop along the way. You know what I mean, people are always saying to “stop and smell the roses.” But let’s face it, sometimes you just can’t stop.

  • COLUMN: A new season and a new list

High school football pulls back the curtain this week on another academic year. The usual fixtures are in place – Louisville Trinity and Fort Thomas Highlands.
For the rest of the year, these are a few things I would like to see come to pass:
    1. My favorite for Kentucky sports person of the year has been established: Emma Talley. A 19-year-old from Princeton in Caldwell County and a sophomore at Alabama, Talley won the U.S. Women’s Amateur Golf Championship. Two Kentuckians won major tournaments this year, Talley and Kenny Perry of Franklin.
