Nathan Wimsatt, a Spencer County High School senior, was involved in a fatal car accident that occurred on April 29.

According to the Taylorsville-Spencer County Fire Protection District, around 11:35 p.m. Saturday, emergency responders were dispatched to the 3-mile marker on Lilly Pike for a one vehicle injury accident. One patient declined medical care, and the other, Wimsatt, was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Taylorsville Police, Spencer County Sheriff’s Office, Spencer County EMS, Spencer County Coroner’s Office, and TSCFD all responded. TSCFD said the following: “We would like to extend our condolences to the victims, family, and friends affected by this tragedy.”

The investigation, led by Kentucky State Police, determined that “Nathan Wimsatt, (18 year old male of Taylorsville) was operating a 1991 Mazda Miata on Lilly Pike in Spencer County, and lost control of the vehicle, striking an embankment. The vehicle overturned and Mr. Wimsatt was ejected from the vehicle. The Spencer County Coroner’s office pronounced Mr. Wimsatt deceased at the scene and next of kin has been notified.”

On April 30, the high school’s Facebook page read: “It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the loss of one of our own. Last night, senior Nathan Wimsatt was involved in an automobile accident that claimed his life. Nathan was a member of the soccer and tennis teams, was a beloved member of our school community, and will be greatly missed by all. Please be in prayer for Nathan’s family, our students, and our staff as we face the grief that the coming days will bring.”

Taylorsville Community Church opened up their doors on Sunday for anyone that needed extra support. Grief Counselors and a Crisis Team was set up in the SCHS library on Monday to provide support for all staff and students.

Additionally, KSA testing, which was set to begin on Monday, was delayed to focus on the well-being of the school family.
