First, thank you for reading this. And thanks to all of you who took the time this week to say hello and tell me you enjoyed my columns. What a blessing when I meet someone for the first time or pass someone in the grocery store and they say, “Hey, aren’t you the guy that writes that column?” or, “I liked your column the other day.” So, thanks for reading and thanks for taking the time to talk to me about it.

Every week I try to relate the Word of God to our daily lives. Sometimes it is easier than others, sometimes finding the right words is a real struggle, but my goal is always to bring God’s Word to life. It encourages me when I hear that this simple column has touched someone in some way. I am most blessed when people not only remember a column topic or story, but when they remember the point. Because honestly, if the point is about me, then it isn’t that great a point!

All I try to do is explain God’s Word a little bit. I try to relate His Word to my life, and hopefully to your life as well. It is God’s word that makes the difference. In Isaiah the Lord says, “So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it” (Isaiah55:1 ESV) It is His word that makes the difference, All I really do is try to put God’s Word in context for our lives.

And if I am blessed and pleased that you read this humble column, imagine God’s pleasure when you open His Word! My words are trivial, but His Word brings life and hope. I work on this column for a few hours at most, the Lord God worked on His word for thousands of years. My words will fade over time, but His Word will stand forever. My words may make you smile or laugh, His Word can and does change lives forever.

So again, thanks for reading my column. But don’t forget to read God’s Word. Whatever blessing you may get from what I write will pale in comparison to the rich blessings of reading His Word. And when you are reading your Bible and trying to apply it in your life, I think that perhaps you bring a smile to the face of God. Oh, and remember, when you read God’s Word, take some time to tell Him how much you appreciate it. He loves to hear that!
